Halo From North 2021
The new Hálo clothing store, designed by interior designer Laura Seppänen, has been fully renovated to create a minimalistic and modern space.
The design incorporates materials such as stone, concrete, glass, and light wood, reflecting inspiration from Tokyo’s graphic and airy aesthetics. Featuring custom-made furniture crafted in Finland, the store presents its garments in a spacious and visually appealing layout, perfectly aligning with the founders’ vision and Seppänen’s refined design philosophy.
Maannos restaurant 2018
Kitchen & Bar by Maannos, located in Helsinki’s vibrant Punavuori district, was designed by Laura Seppänen to blend the historical character of its 1898-era building with modern Scandinavian aesthetics. The design draws inspiration from the restaurant’s name, which refers to fertile soil, reflected in a palette of earthy tones like mud, clay, and sand. Key elements include exposed concrete floors, a brick rear wall, and travertine-washed surfaces for a soft, natural finish.
Emerald green and deep blue Gubi Beetle chairs symbolize Finland’s forests and lakes, while a jute carpet and ochre sofa evoke cornfields. Brass lighting fixtures and a mirrored coffee table add modern metallic accents, uniting the rustic and contemporary themes in a harmonious dining environment.
Block by Dylan 2015
Block By Dylan, designed by Laura Seppänen in collaboration with Suvi-Maria Silvola, combines Scandinavian minimalism with bold color accents. The design respects the building’s striking architecture and sea views, preserving materials like oak, marble, and granite. Urban touches, including airy metal-framed furniture and vibrant red and green accent walls, contrast with warm wooden elements. The interior skillfully blends design classics with modern pieces, while the high ceilings and a skylit courtyard create an open and unique ambiance.
University of Lapland 2015
The redesign of the central Agora hall and the F-Hub space at a university was led by designers Suvi-Mari Silvola and Laura Seppänen. The interiors were crafted to meet diverse user needs while respecting the building’s original architectural design. Featuring exclusively Nordic furniture, lighting, and textiles, the spaces highlight sustainable and durable design with an emphasis on functionality and cohesive style.
The color palette refreshes the original architectural vision, incorporating a color wheel concept in the Agora with four distinct functional zones. To balance the hard surfaces of wood, concrete, tile, and glass, soft and acoustic materials like upholstered furniture, felt, and linoleum were introduced. Carpets and cushioned furniture enhance both ergonomics and acoustics, creating a harmonious and welcoming environment.
